Do you ever wonder where your tile comes from? Do you like to support American businesses? Is recycling and reusing important to you? Read on to hear about a few of the benefits that come from using Crossville tile, including an overview of the eco-friendly practices at this American company and more.
In the fall, a couple of us got to visit Crossville Tile’s headquarters in Tennessee. While we were there, we learned a lot about this domestic manufacturer and got to see their Green Squared certified factory and learn about their eco-friendly production methods.
All of Crossville’s domestic tiles include recycled content. This ranges from 4%-40%, and due in part to a partnership with TOTO, they are actually a net consumer of waste. This means that they turn more “waste” materials into finished products than the amount of waste they produce. They recycle and reuse most of the water that runs through their production process, and they even have a tile take-back program. Additionally, the Crossville factory uses 85-95% raw materials sourced from within 500 miles of their location, which reduces their carbon footprint.
In addition to their eco-friendly practices, Crossville offers some interesting benefits in their tiles. Many of their tiles have Cross-Sheen, which is a special finish that makes the products especially easy to clean and protects from scuffs, stains, and more. Hydrotect is another available finish that helps keep the surface of the tile cleaner and actually cleans the air. For more details, visit the Crossville website.
